Title: GENDER AND POLICY-MAKING IN IGBO TRADITIONAL SOCIETY

Abstract: Policy-making creates an opportunity for the community or an organization to make decisions that control the members of the organization. In traditional societies, particularly among the Igbo, women are not given equal opportunities with men to make input in decision-making (policy-making). Therefore, the paper examined the influence of gender on women’s participation in policy-making with the view of finding a solution to the anomaly. In this research, cultural and phenomenological Approaches were used. The data collected were described and analyzed. It used primary and secondary sources. The primary source used was observation while secondary sources used were books and Journals. It was discovered that women were not given the opportunity to partake in policy-making due to gender constraints. Women were expected to participate in decision-making in order to tackle the deficiency in equal opportunity between women and men in policy-making.
