This article seeks to examine the aspect of searching for a safe space where any gay man can live freely without being attacked, bullied or killed. The article seeks to provide strategies on how to locate a safe space as a gay man living in a homophobic nation. In finding a safe space, many make use of the rainbow flag but at the same time, many gay men tend to misinterpreted the context in which the flag is placed and end up in what I term “Hell Mouth”. Such is a deadly or risky zone for gay men. Such a place is not conducive for gay men. This article cuts across the aspect of misrepresenting the rainbow flag and the dangers of misrepresenting it as a gay man. Many lost their lives in the search for a safe space has been a huge challenge for gay men especially the gay men in Africa. Many European gay porn stars and activists are afraid to visit homophobic nations because they are hell mouths for them. Misrepresenting something gives a different impression about that thing. Fight a good fight, live happily, see hope even though you are born in a homophobic nation. Finding a safe space is like travelling to the evil forest to look for the teeth of the last black cat. Challenges must come your way and you must be strong for a wise man once told me “Nothing good comes easy” The Heritage Illustrated Dictionary of The English Language International Edition defines a symbol as something that represents something’ else by association, resemblance or conventions; especially, a material object used to represent something invisible. It can as well be a printed or written sign used to represent an operation, element, quantity, or relation as in mathematics or music as the dictionary tells us.
